[edit] Regular-Season Highlights

Nov. 5, 1939 - Both the battle of the field goals and the game were won by the Lions in an 18-14 decision over the defending World Champion New York Giants. The upset win by Detroit snapped a 15-game unbeaten streak for the Giants and served as their lone defeat of the season. Phil Martinovich kicked three field goals and Chuck Hanneman added another to put the Lions on top. On the other side of the ball, the Giants were stung with four missed field goals.
