The team was managed by Jimmy Collins and played at Huntington Avenue Grounds.

The Americans finished in 3rd place in the American League, 6½ games behind the Philadelphia Athletics. The Americans were led by Buck Freeman, who hit 11 home runs and drove in 121 runs. Patsy Dougherty, on the other hand, led the team with a .342 average. Their longest winning streak of the season came between July 19th and July 28th when they defeated the Chicago White Stockings, St. Louis Browns, and Detroit Tigers until succumbing on the 29th to the Tigers. Their longest losing streak was between July 12th and July 18th, when they fell to the Philadelphia Athletics and Cleveland Blues, until defeating the Chicago White Stockings on July 19th.
