Alright, I know I'm looking a little far ahead here and jumping over way to many weeks for my own good but this is on my mind and I can't help it.

Let's fast-forward to Sunday, December 29th, roughly around 7:15 Central time that evening...

The New England Patriots will be on the road at Giants Stadium to take on the NY Giants. This could be for a perfect season. 15-0 heading into the game, one more for perfection. Now, I'm not going to debate if they will be able to or not, that has been done and will be done until they lose, well, if they do.

What I do not like and am nearly upset about is that this game would be carried on the NFL Network. Yes, that NFL Network that the vast majority of the nation does not have access to. Cable companies, satellite TV providers, and whoever else you might get your programming from have been playing tug of war with the NFL Network since it first came out. Granted, the number of people who have access to the NFL Network has grown in the last year but it is still not reaching as many people as FOX, CBS, or NBC.

The NFL needs to be aware of this. Not every fan can afford the package that allows them to watch the NFL Network. Some are not of age to go to their local sports bar and watch it there. If you want to really have this story reach its peak, have it reach the most amount of people as possible.

This would be such a terrible move if this game does not change. This would anger countless New England fans and most likely countless football fans in general. I am not a huge Patriots fan by any means, but I love football. I will be glued to my TV watching a team try and go 16-0. Oh wait, I don't have the NFL Network, I can't!!!

It does suck, but I would recommend getting NFL network, it is well worth it for all football fans and give you much better round the clock coverage than ESPN

I have watched it, my parents have it. I enjoy it. If you don't like football then you're going to hate it haha! It'd be nice to have but I'm not going to write letters to my cable company anytime soon over it.

Comcast HAD the NFL Network for us digital subscribers, then they got greedy, and yanked it for the current subscribers. So they made it a $5 fee per month.

The game will still be broadcast in the local market even if it is on NFL network.

Even worse, Bryant Gumbel would be the announcer. "And the New England Patriots defeat the New York Knicks 32-3 to achieve a perfect 16-0 recordin the 2007 NBA season." -BG

Nah he can generally gets the name of the teams right. He doesn't know things like having to punt the ball away is not the same as turning the ball over on downs, but is that worse than joe buck not realizing the indians had played the yankees not the Angles in the first round? i don't know...

I think it would be safe to say that NBC would try and get this game switched to their network and with the "flex-scheduling" that is in place now it probably would happen. But, I would see the NFL Network act like a baby and not let this one go without kicking and screaming!

Impossible, NBC cannot steal a game from NFL Network or ESPN.

It's not stealing , its flex scheduling and they can take the game away. When Sunday night football became more popular than Monday night you saw the networks swoop in for that one and now espn still gets the worse game.

I just completely changed my mind about being ok with the game being on NFL network. The though of Bryant Gumbel commentating a Giants game kind of made me throw up in my mouth.

I have Time Warner Cable and am unable to get NFL Network, even if I do want it. I'm going to be very angry if I can't watch the last game of what could be a 16-0 season.

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Me too. I'm a TWC subscriber and a Giants fan, though, so the 16-0 aspect is a detail. Odds are, that game will have playoff implications for the G-Men -- and I'll be "watching" on GameCast.

The NFL is just as at fault for this as the cable companies. there was a good TMQ article on ESPN (here is the address, I don't know how to link it: http://sport...brook/071030 )

I've got Suddenlink and I threw a fit last season when we couldn't get NFL Network and the Ravens had a few games on there only. I finally got to speak to a "higher-up" that told me NFL-Network was basically holding them hostage over the prices and he started whining about how it was unfair. The irony is that Suddenlink is the only cable company within 300 miles of me so I pay over 150 bucks a month in Internet and no addon digital cable.

You're right, December 29th is a Saturday.....it's also the day that the game is scheduled on! If you were a true NFL fan, you would know that the last couple weeks of the season always have games on Saturdays!

Just to let you guys know, DirecTV is actually LESS expensive than cable (at least where I live) and the NFL Network comes with the base package. So all this talk about shelling out extra bucks is wrong. You just have to switch. And I'm glad I did. The cable company always treated me like I was lucky to have their service, and they were always rude when I called for service, etc. DirecTV has a much better picture (no more fuzzy local channels and the cable company blaming it on whatever sounds good at the time) and its website is super easy to use. So stop whining and switch to DirecTV. By the way, I have Sunday Ticket, and that is RIDICULOUS. Every single game every single week. You can't beat it. It's amazing.

I can admit when I'm butthurt that you get the Network and I don't. You were pretty cocky and general in your state that we should "just switch over" not taking into consideration situations where you might not be able to. Point is your right, I'm just butthurt and now I'm high and butthurt so I'm rambling. Point is your right.

This is me from above and I failed to mention that yes, Bryant Bumble is horrible, so that is a drawback. But it's football and some sacrifices have to be made. And to answer an earlier question, flex scheduling does not include switching networks, it only allows for what game is covered. And trust me, there is no way the NFL Network is giving up that game. It is unfortunate but if the cable companies agreed to put the NFL Network on a basic pay tier the problem would go away. Because they've been greedy and want to charge extra is why there is this big fight. That's the simple version but basically what is the problem.
