10 Things I Hate About You (Baseball)

This is not going to be a rant about how I think baseball needs a salary cap, nor is it a rant against the New York Yankees. That is redundant. However there are ten things that I would love to rid Major League Baseball of, and here they be:
10. The Wave
One of the dumbest incarnations of fan interaction, this exhibition should be outlawed in every major league stadium. If security finds someone attempting to start a wave, they should immediately tazer said individual and bring him to the clink.
9. Bud Selig & Donald Fehr
A big reason why your team can't afford to keep your favourite player? These two guys can share the blame. Fehr makes Selig look like a pussy, which isn't very difficult. The game would be much more of a 'game' than a 'business' if these two louts were shown the door.
8. Two Teams in Florida
It's a shame baseball swept the game out of Montreal, won't put a team in more deserving markets such as Buffalo, Portland or Las Vegas, and still has two teams in a market that couldn't care less about the game.
7. Third Uniforms
These third uniforms, to some teams, are treated as primary uniforms. They look like Spring Training Uniforms, and give off the vibe that when they're being worn, it's the teams version of Dress Down Fridays, which would be fine, but as a paying consumer, I want my teams dressed to the nines in their 'official' home or away uniforms when I'm there. If you are going to have a third uniform, use it sparingly, and have it be a throwback uniform rather than just being a bold primary colour.
6. Jeffrey Loria
The Anti-Christ of baseball owners murdered the Expos, has been rewarded with an undeserved World Series ring, and is living off the bounty of revenue sharing without helping his franchise in any ways financially.
5. Interleague Play
It was cool for the first year they did it, but now it's just a nuisanse, creating an unbalanced schedule, and too many 'Who Cares?' matchups to be worth the effort. Sure it's kinda cool to see the Dodgers come in next year to Toronto, but not that cool. I would rather see more games against the A's.
4. Catcher's Goalie Mask
Blame Charlie O'Brien for ushering the new face of backcatchers in the majors. Call us old fashioned, but the old catcher's masks still look way cooler than these stupid artsy hockey masks.
3. John Gibson
Gibson doesn't have anything to do directly with the game of baseball, and I guess it's tough to argue that he really has anything to do indirectly as well. But his mere existence makes everything in the world a little worse. And that's a fact.
2. Teams Can't Trade Draft Picks
How condescending of major league baseball to not allow General Managers of teams to trade their draft picks for the entry draft. It's almost as if they are telling teams 'we don't trust what you may do, so we won't let you ruin your teams.' The fact is, some franchises value the entry draft much more than other teams. If Brian Sabean wants to build his team not around the draft, he should have the right to move his picks for Major League or Minor League players. The rule in place is stupid.
1. Ads Behind Home Plate
When they started putting those revolving signs behind home plate a bit over half a decade ago, I couldn't concentrate on anything other than what was on the rotating billboard. "DRINK COCA-COLA" would run through my head, rather than the count at the plate. 'Relax' I was told 'You're a young guy, give it a week and you won't even notice it's there'. Fast forward 8 or so years, the rotating advertisements have now gotten bigger, Fox has replaced some of them with huge greenscreens to digitally plant dozens of ads, such as "PRISON BREAK ON FOX!", and it's now more distracting then ever.
If I'm going to invest three or so hours watching a baseball game on television, the least the networks and MLB could do is not have me forced to see "KOTEX FITS. PERIOD.", if I want to see Nick Swisher hit.
