10 QBs On Pace for Record 4,000-Yard Season

by TheMacBros

Ten quarterbacks, led by the Patriots' Tom Brady and the Packers' Brett Favre, are on pace to throw for more than 4,000 yards this season, marking an NFL record. If all 10 gunslingers continue on their bombs-away pace, it would double the previous record, which occurred in 1999, 2004 and 2006, when five QBs eclipsed the 4,000-yard mark during a single season.

To offer up some historical context, New York Jets QB Joe Namath was the first quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards during one season, back in 1967.

The 10 QBs on pace for 4,000 yards this season are:

Tom Brady (2,686 yards in 9 games) on pace for 4,775

Brett Favre (2,406 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,812

Tony Romo (2,308 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,616

Carson Palmer (2,193 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,386

Drew Brees (2,175 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,350

Derek Anderson (2,108 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,216

Peyton Manning (2,058 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,116

Donovan McNabb (2,044 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,088

Matt Hasselbeck (2,023 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,046

Jon Kitna (2000 yards in 8 games) on pace for 4,000

I think this demonstrates that the League has written and enforced rules that favor the passing game, as well as the protection of QBs. Then again, it will be getting cold very soon. We'll see what that does to passing numbers.

Brett Favre is also on pace to finally break Lynn Dickey's team record for passing yards in a season, a Packers' record Favre doesn't already own.

Well, I think we can count on Derek Anderson slowing the pace and McNabb breaking/tearing/twisting something, but the rest could definitely hit 4,000.

Don't count out Derek Anderson. They have the fourth best offense in the league this year.

You may be correct. If you had said those words before the season, I would have called you crazy.

Brady, Favre, Romo, Brees, and Manning will definitely make it, the rest of them is iffy. And you want to know why the quarterbacks are racking up yards at a record pace? Bill Polian. Baby Bill's complaint after the 2004 AFC Championship has made it tough on the cornerbacks, and the new rules have ultimately resulted in more points. Which is why Asante Samuel is so valuable to the Patriots and they'd better pay him as much as he wants.
