"The Gospel" Week 11 Wide Receivers

Last week was not an easy week for the receiver position. Some I hit dead-on, while others (Burress, Braylon, and Lee Evans) I missed badly. That’s why this position is the most unpredictable position in all of fantasy football, but it is a position that will make all the difference in the world when talking wins and losses.

In my two cash competitions last week I went against my normal strategy by drafting running backs first and ended up with Holt, Hines Ward, and David Patten in one league and Reggie Wayne, Greg Jennings, and Calvin Johnson in the other. In each league my receivers totaled 30 points in each league, but it was not enough for me to even contend for a 1st or 2nd place finish. Basically, it was a wasted week and in my season leagues I struggled without Randy Moss on each of my three teams. This week circumstances are destined to change as my original strategy is in full force.

Remember, “The Gospel” series has nothing to do with a start’em sit’em list, but more of a guide for fantasy football weekly cash competitions and a little help if faced with the difficult dilemma of whom to play on Sunday.

Randy Moss: Like Brady, Moss remains on the top and even though the Buffalo corners are physical they’ll find someone else to pick on. Moss can’t be stopped and after resting during week 10 it’s lights out for the Bills defense. Projected Points: 24

Terrell Owens: Picking up steam down the stretch is what staying in great physical shape will do for elite athletes. Owens is coming off of consecutive games of over 23 fantasy points. He’ll have another good week against a defense (Washington) that will not stop the Cowboys at home. Projected Points: 22

Reggie Wayne: Manning’s main target even when Harrison was healthy. The Chiefs can’t game plan enough to stop Wayne and the Colts who are coming off of consecutive losses. Projected Points: 20

Larry Fitzgerald: Fitzgerald had plenty of owners concerned about where his season was headed. He’s had some good games but not one of those jaw-dropping performances that we’ve seen from other great receivers this season. Against the Bengals awful secondary, this could very easily be the week that we see Fitzgerald’s best. Projected Points: 19

Torry Holt: Bruce and Jackson got last weeks touchdowns but Holt lead in yards. Holt has too much savvy for the Niners to keep him out of the endzone this week. Projected Points: 18

T.J. Houshmanzadeh: Housh killed opposing defenses without Chris Henry around. What will he do now that these defenses have to remain honest by covering three legit receivers. Projected Points: 16

Greg Jennings: Favre completed passes to 10 different receivers and Jennings still managed 63 yards. That won’t happen again and Jennings should score a touchdown. Projected Points: 15

Chad Johnson: Chad’s production has suffered all season long, but he still remains a top threat in any offense. The Bengals play the Cardinals in a game that they are supposed to win and a game where Chad should play a major role in their success. Projected Points: 15

Steve Smith: You have to feel terrible for Smith who is having the worst season as a professional. Things can’t get any worse so look for a above average game from Smith. Projected Points: 14

Marques Colston: Should find a way to score against the Niners weak defense. Projected Points:14

Roy Williams: Williams is coming off of a two touchdown game last week against Arizona, but the Giants pass rush should muck things up a little bit for the passing game. Projected Points: 10

Plaxico Burress: A season long ankle injury is beginning to take its toll on Burress. Don’t be surprised if Toomer or Shockey leads the Giants receiving options this week. Projected Points: 10

Don’t be surprised if….

Isaac Bruce has another good game.

Jason Witten playing second fiddle to Owens scores big after a miserable week 10.

Chris Henry steals the spotlight from the Bengals dual threat.

Antonio Gates remains a corpse in the futile San Diego pass game.

Calvin Johnson leads the Lions and posts his biggest game of the season.

Marvin Harrison torches the Chiefs.

Joey Galloway and the Bucs get shut down in Atlanta.
