[1] Competing is the key. Many don't believe, but the New York Giants are proving them wrong. Beating the Philadelphia Eagles 16-3, brought confidences.
The defense was great. Pressuring Donovan McNabb was successful. 12 sacks, help the Giants win. "Last week we able to get some pressure on the quarterback," said Umenyiora, "We knew we would eventually get some sacks. We have some of the best pass rushers in the league on this team. We put it all together today." The defense won the game. 62 yards were lost, because of sacks.
Winston Justin played horrible. He's didn't perform well. "It was like a video game out there," Umenyiora said. "Winston Justice is a very good football player. Tonight was just one of those nights. He'll learn from that experience." He'll learn, he's young. Winston had no help. "That poor kid that they had over there," Strahan said. "Why didn't they help him? I felt, in an odd way, you could ruin the guy. It's his first start and that's what he gets. It's not a good thing." The Giants defense "killed" him. "I am going to shoulder the loss for the team," Winston said. "I got out of my technique, tried to make adjustments and they just didn't work." It's not his fault. The team played bad.
The offense played "average". Derrick Ward rushed for 80 yards. He didn't score, his performance was helpless.
Amani Toomer had 54 receiving yards. He didn't perform well, only 4 catches.
Eli Manning, played normal. 14-26, with 135 yards. Only 1 interception, and 1 sack. He needs to improve, Eli could play better. No leadership, and plays like a "rookie." The offense didn't get involved, that's Eli's problem.
Eli passed to Burress, for a touchdown. The second quarter score, 7-0.
The third quarter, Lawrence Tyne kicked a field goal. The score was 10-0.
Donovan McNabb fumbled, and the Giants scored. 16-0. "It's frustrating," said McNabb. "For an offense that has had so much success over the previous years, for us to come out and play the way we played today is embarrassing." His injury, caused his struggles. He can't scramble, that hurts his play. McNabb was 15-31, with no help.
In the fourth, David Akers kicked a field goal. The Eagles only score, 16-3.
"We did all the bad stuff, putting ourselves in bad situations and third and long," Runyan said. "That's just telling the defense exactly what you are going to do." The Eagles didn't perform. Offensively they couldn't succeed, 132 yards were lost from penalties. It was a nightmare; the Giants ruin their goal.
