"Offense wins games...

…Defense wins Championships"

We’ve heard that saying a hell of allot this season and I guess it's pretty valid. What with the Chicago Bears going 13-3 with Rex ‘Incossitent? No I’m not! oh OK, sometimes I am’ Grossman behind the helm and all. BUT

At the moment you can still get around 10/1 odds on the Indianapolis Colts winning the Super Bowl. Now look, I know their defense ain’t great against the run alright, but it is second in the league against the pass and HELLO have you seen their Offense in action at all this season?

Now I’m not saying that the Colts ARE going to win the Super Bowl and there are some other fantastic teams out there (change the C to a B folks), but come on; this is a team that started the season at 9-0 and smashed the Patriots in their own backyard and yet still the bookies don’t think that they can win it? And I haven’t even mentioned the ‘Manning’ factor yet.

I don’t endorse betting in anyway because it’s stupid and you will lose all your money (Yes that is a disclaimer! Don’t bet on anything ever or you will die), but I’ve got my two cents down for this one. On most days the Colts are an incredibly tough team to beat and at those kind of odds I just can’t pass this one up.

I’ll probably be regretting this post later on after the Chiefs rush all over them for 8 billion yards but, there is another saying in football you know.

“The best Defense is a good Offense.” And the Colts sure as heck have one of those.

I'd rather have a great offense than a great defense. If your team is losing, fans would rather watch a 35-28 loss than a 9-6 one, so it'll put bums on the seats. So you won't lose money when your team starts losing.

Um, how many Super Bowl rings do the Colts having with Manning. None you say? Ok, how many Super Bowl appearance. Zone also. Yep, offense is the best defense, NOT!

Manning has had WAY more talent surrounding him then Brady has, yet Brady can still get it done. Manning is the next Dan Marino, great QB without a Ring.

The way the Colts look right now (middle of the second quarter) against LJ, you could be right. However, the fact of the matter is no team can possibly win a Super Bowl with all offense and no defense or vice versa. Even the Ravens a few years ago had a good running game and a quarterback who could manage a game pretty well. You have to have a complete team, meaning the Bears and the Colts (based on the season, not tonight) won't win. The Bears have a shot to get there because the NFC is a like AAA-football, but they won't beat the likes of the Chargers, Ravens or Pats.

Great defense WHEN IT MATTERS is the important key. You gotta make stops, but Offense is definitely more important... afterall, the team that scores MORE wins.

This is how my favorite team does it...Go Suns!

"Offense wins games, defense wins Championships"... then what wins Championship Games? Special teams, perhaps?

Well, I certainly didn't expect that game to end up like it did.

I would have to agree with Alex, I'd rather have a good Offense too. You have to be able to score to win right? Then again one of the things that makes Football so great is that the Defense can score at any moment in the game! So maybe it is better to have a great Defense then a great Offense? Who can say?

And yes I do like this fence I'm sitting on. ;)

Thanks for the comments guys and remember to check out the blog!

The "Manning Factor"? They won last night because the Cheifs were crap. Manning threw three picks, thats not helping him win anything. Brady, on the other hand throws for 2 TD's No INT's and 200+ yards. Thats a good Playoff QB performance. A great defense is more likely to win with a bad offense then vice versa because Defenses can score, but Offenses can't play defense. The Super Bowl winner comes out of the Chargers-Patriots game this next weekend, mark my words, and the Pats will win.

manning is no marino, please. if dan marino ever had a great running back he would be unstoppable even without a defense. as far as brady, he is a solid qb who knows how to win games and doesn't get rattled when it counts. it's like i like to say in baseball, brady is "clutch". he actually excels when the pressure is on and elevates his game and the game of the players around him. pure CLUTCH> sorry manny wags. there is such a thing as clutch and it does exist in every sport.
